Today I was watching the TV, and there was breaking news that the inflation rate has reached to the highest level in 3 years to 7.57%. How does a common man understand it, in terms of its effect on his lifestyle, with no increase in wages?
For instance, I live in Faridabad. My washer man- Rajinder (u see him here with his daughter; a BA graduate from a govt. college) migrated all the way from Hardoi with his family about 5 years back, for a better living. He owned a small land with a tractor, and he left all this for good, as was not able to meet his agriculture expenses. Here, he started ironing clothes @ 50 paise per cloth, and washing cars for Rs. 100 per month. Even today, he charges the same and cannot dare to increase, as there are another 30- 40 guys ready to take the job in the same amount. He is now deciding to withdraw his son from the school as it has doubled the fee, he could never send his daughter to school, his wife is now resorting to work in homes…. etc. etc. How does he cope with the increase in price of his each need including what they eat, sleep, walk and smile with? Worst.. he does not have even a single penny saving, to even go back with in these last 5 dream years. The only thing he gained is lost health and some years of his life.
This instance is India’s 70- 80 % population (what our govt fondly calls poverty line). This is the situation, when the rate is not so alarming as per the government. What will happen, when it becomes alarming??
Are we being used by these governments coming and going, to fill their pockets with our tax paid money and calling it inflation? Where are we going…. Leave behind the GDPs, Carrefours, Walmarts, satellites and IT jig?? Can Rajinder dream to be a part of this life.. even his kids?
